The Maloti Drakensberg Route (MDR) is proud to announce that two of their towns were placed in the top ten as finalists in the Kwêla Kyknet Town of the Year 2013 Competition.

Fouriesburg is announced the winner in the 2013 Dorp van die Jaar competition, followed closely by KZN’s Winterton.

The Maloti Drakensberg Route (MDR) is proud to announce that two of their towns were placed in the top ten as finalists in the Kwêla Kyknet Town of the Year 2013 Competition.

The winners were announced on Kyknet on the 7th August and Winterton in the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg came 5th with 27 319 Votes, and Fouriesburg in the Eastern Free State took the crown with an overwhelming 107 761 votes.

This was no mean feat as the competition included steep competition from towns in South Africa and Namibia.

As the winner, Fouriesburg will receive marketing to the value of 1 million Rand, which will benefit not only Fouriesburg, but will encourage visitors to many of the other charming towns on the Maloti Drakensberg Route.

Says MDR Chairperson Amerintia Human `Last year Clarens (Eastern Free State) and also located on the MDR) was the regional winner in the 2012 Kwela Kyknet Town of the Year competition whilst Marquard (also in the Eastern Free State and on the MDR) won the Tourism Town of the Year in 2009/2010. We are so proud to be recognised for our unique offerings located on the Maloti Drakensberg Route and would like to extend our congratulations to these towns and our sincere thanks to members of the public for their votes of support’.

The Kwêla Kyknet celebrations will be held in the Fouriesburg on 24 August 2013. In true South African patriotic style, why not join the feast and festivities?
